Stress is one of the most common troubles that a person has. It happens when the pressures brought by tasks reach our mind or when the body is pushed to accomplish a number of activities without any break to breathe even for a few minutes. Yes, there may be times that a little stress can be healthy like when it motivates us to be better at something. But there’s a bigger likelihood that stress is more damaging to one’s health than a benefit.
Stress is defined as “a specific response by the body to a stimulus, as fear or pain, which interferes with the normal physiological equilibrium (Webster’s dictionary)”. As I have mentioned, stress can be damaging to one’s health, regardless of one’s age or gender. Some of the effects of stress are: anxiety, fatigue, dizziness, headaches, sleeping problems, elevated blood pressure, indigestion and upset stomach, and inability to concentrate. Again, these are just SOME of the negative effects of stress; effects that, as we all know, when constantly felt and experienced, will soon knock us down.
“Prevention is better than cure”. A common knowledge that is so true that, I believe, has to go down deep into our senses. There is nothing wrong in taking a break in the middle of a 10-hour office work. Always be reminded that adequate sleep has always been an effective tool against fatigue. Eating healthy meals is also essential as food can give you fuel the to beat a strenuous day ahead. Regular exercise should also be part of our weekly schedule. Since the beginning of time, radioactivity has been part of our mother earth.
